The Invitation

There was a time, not too long ago, when I was suffocating under the weight of uncertainty.

I’d followed the well-worn path. I’d studied, earned good grades, worked really hard, and even built a successful career. But as I neared forty, all of the societal milestones that were supposed to anchor me, including the husband, the family, and the kids, were nowhere in sight. Then suddenly, the career I’d worked so hard to build, along with the significance and independence that it afforded me, all disappeared at once.

It felt as though I’d been tossed into the wilderness without a path back to safety. I was a fighter and refused to go down willingly. So I held on, and tried to pry doors open, and yet every one of them seemed to swing shut right before my eyes and I couldn’t figure out why. Eventually, I began to lose hope, and with it, the will to go on for even another day.

Back then, I couldn’t imagine making it out. But I swore that if by some miracle I did, I’d share my story, and I’d hold a light for anyone else shrouded in darkness.

This book is the fulfillment of that promise. It’s a lifelong dream that could never have emerged without those devastating losses. As I wrote, I began to recognize patterns that extended far beyond my own story: The slow erasure of who we are in exchange for acceptance. The shadows we spend our lives running from. The haunting sense of lack and the exhausting search that takes us everywhere except home.

It is only in hindsight that I can see with profound clarity that my failures, my struggles, and the shame I carried were not obstacles blocking my path. They were the path.

Sometimes when the road back disappears, it’s intentional. Otherwise, we might return to what is familiar but unfulfilling, and remain a fraction of who we are capable of being. It is only when we let go of who we thought we had to be and the path we thought we had to follow that we finally become who we are meant to be.

In the early days of writing, I hid safely behind frameworks and philosophies, but I knew that in my own time of need, none of them had delivered any meaningful relief. So, I tried again but ended up with a sanitized skeleton of what I wanted to convey because I was terrified that my unfinished story, my failures, and my ugly truth were too much. Then I heard that familiar inner voice instructing me not to water down the truth into a more palatable narrative, because to do so would minimize the transformation that is actually possible. So, for this last version, I held nothing back.

My hope is that in sharing my truth, you feel less alone in yours.

My commitment to you throughout these pages is to not sugarcoat, offer false hope, or give empty promises that sound good in theory but fail to hold you in your moment of need. Every insight, practice, and tool I share is what brought me back to wholeness and offered me a renewed sense of alignment that I never dreamed possible. And now, I honor that gift by passing it on to you.

May it illuminate the way and be the compass that returns you to your center as you forge your own uncharted path.

Above all, may it restore your certainty beyond logic.
